Get started with Samsung Pay
Samsung Pay is a mobile payment service and digital wallet. The service allows you to make payments using smartphones, smartwatches and other mobile devices from Samsung
Samsung Pay is compatible with Samsung phones (Android 9.0 or later) and Samsung watches with NFC support.
To use Samsung Pay you need a Samsung mobile phone and a Visa or Mastercard from DNB. Once you have these in place, you can follow these steps:
- Go to my cards in the Mobile Bank and push the card into Samsung Pay
Alternatively, the following can be done:
- Download the Samsung Wallet app from the Google Play Store on your Android device
- Select payment method and add your desired DNB card
- Accept terms
- Enter the confirmation code you receive
Samsung Pay is now ready to use.
One of the options when adding card details is to hold the card against the phone and use NFC to read the card number and expiry date.
This works well on credit cards (Mastercard), but currently not on debit cards (Visa).
On the debit card, it is the BankAxept card number that is read, and this will not work (only Visa and Mastercard are supported).
For the time being, you must use the camera to scan the card number or enter it manually. Samsung is working on a solution to this.
Using Samsung Pay
You can pay with Samsung Pay at all payment terminals that accept Visa and Mastercard contactless payments, both in Norway and abroad.
Samsung Pay can also be used in online shops and apps that offer Samsung Pay as a payment option.
How to make a payment with Samsung Pay
- On the home screen or lock screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Samsung Pay. Swipe left or right to switch cards if you wish.
- To enter payment mode, press the Fingerprint, Iris button or PIN button if you want to enter your PIN.
- Place the back of your phone against the payment terminal.
There is no cost associated with paying with Samsung Pay.
Below your card, you will find the most recent transactions. This information comes from Visa/Mastercard when a purchase has been completed.
Yes, the device must have a login enabled to be able to use Samsung Pay.
Security and Samsung Pay
One of the most secure and widely used methods employed by Samsung is tokenisation. This is a method where your sensitive card details (card number, expiry date, security code, etc.) are replaced with a device-specific 'token' that acts as a substitute.
For mobile payments, tokens are used to protect your payment information and to reduce the security risks associated with using plastic cards.
If you disable login on your phone, you must enter a PIN within the Samsung Pay service. After five incorrect PIN attempts, you must wait 30 seconds before you can try a sixth time. If you then enter the wrong PIN four more times, all Samsung Pay data will be deleted from the phone.
