Resident Account

Resident Account is only offered to nursing homes that have DNB as their main bank.

Why use this solution?

Resident Account replaces the cash box at the nursing home, where each resident is allocated their own account. The nursing home gains access to the accounts via their own online banking, making it easy to transfer money to and from the account. This solution ensures traceability and introduces a standardised procedure for financial transactions across nursing homes.

Tips and advice

The resident account solution requires the nursing home to establish an agreement with the bank. This agreement determines who at the nursing home has authorisation to request the opening and closing of a resident account
Deposits to the resident account can be made by the resident themselves, next of kin or guardian, but the account must not be used for salary, pension or investments
The resident account will not be accessible to the resident, who also does not have the option to take over the right of disposal of the account
The resident can request closure of the account. Interest earned is reported on the resident's tax return, and guardians do not have access to the resident account
When a resident needs cash, an internal transfer is made from the individual resident account to the nursing home's account. A business card owned by the institution is used for cash withdrawals
Payment services must not be linked to the account
The National Insurance Act does not permit this product to be used in any context other than for persons who are admitted to or reside in a nursing home

How do I open a resident account?

The nursing home must complete the form Resident account and send it to us via secure online banking.

The account is opened using the resident's Norwegian national identity number and registered in the nursing home's online bank. It is the nursing home's responsibility to have grounds for the request.

Identification of resident

When the resident is not a customer, we carry out customer due diligence in accordance with the Norwegian Anti-Money Laundering Act. The nursing home is responsible for identification: confirming the correct address, name and copy of proof of identity for the resident.

National ID card issued by an EU/EEA country
Driving licence issued after 1998

A copy of the identification must be confirmed with "certified copy", date, stamp and signature in accordance withAuthorisation Beboerkonto and attach it to the form Beboerkonto.

NB! If the resident does not have valid identification documents, the nursing home must provide a medical certificate stating that it is impossible to obtain valid proof of identity. Together with the medical certificate, a copy of an expired ID or a letter from a public authority, such as social security, pension, or tax assessment, must also be attached before the account can be opened (cf. the Anti-Money Laundering Act, Section 7, paragraph 5).

How to close a Beboerkonto?

The nursing home is responsible for ensuring that the Beboerkonto is closed if the resident moves home or to another nursing home (the resident cannot take the account to a new nursing home). Fill in the form Resident account and send via logged-in online banking.

In the event of death, the nursing home must as soon as possible retrieve the necessary payment documentation, account statements and the most recent transactions, as the resident account will be removed from online banking a few days after the date of death. The nursing home can subsequently order copies of payment documentation up to the date of death for a standard fee

How do I retrieve account statements and annual statements?

Account statement: The account statements are placed in the online bank for the nursing home. The resident's name appears on the right-hand side under 'Account holder'.

Annual statement: Two annual statements are sent per 'resident account'. One is sent to the resident (online bank or post). The resident's name and address appear in the address field and are retrieved from the National Population Register. The other is sent to the nursing home's online bank. This can be found under 'Archive' - 'Annual statement'. The name of the holder (resident) appears in the middle of the annual statement.

Please note! Annual statements are only produced if accrued interest is more than NOK 1. If accrued interest is less than NOK 1, you can use the last account statement for the year.
