An event-filled start to 2026 gave high activity on the stock exchange

Rarely has a year started as turbulent as this year. There have been lots of big news and increasing geopolitical uncertainty. This affected the markets and contributed to high activity among the private investors through January. In total, shares were bought and sold for around NOK 18.5 billion in our equity trading service last month. Despite the high rate of trading, the investors were net sellers, with a net sales of NOK 850 million.

Frontline continued to be a highly popular stock going into 2026 and topped the list of the most traded shares. At the same time, this was the share with the largest net sales in January. Novo Nordisk was the most popular international share, also here with net selling, while purchases included Mowi and Norwegian Air Shuttle. The seafood company Mowi is currently also a share in in Paul Harper’s recommended weekly portfolio .

The numbers in the top lists

All numbers are based on trading activity performed in the last month via both DNB’s equity trading service online and in the Spare app. The top lists are sorted either based on the number of transactions (buy and sell), net volume (the total amount bought minus the total amount sold), or gross volume (the total amount bought and sold).
